Filming Schedule

As we only have one day in which to film all the London scenes we have to create a strict schedule as to where we will film at any given time and for how long etc.

1) BRICK LANE
11am. Brick Lane in East London will be our first stop for filming as it's within walking distance of Liverpool Street Station where our train will come in. Brick Lane market day is on Sunday, which is the day we're filming so there will be a really good crowded atmosphere there.

2) ST PAUL'S
St Paul's Cathedral is a really iconic landmark in London so a long shot of the cathedral with one of our main characters running past will fit in with the iconography we want in our video. We will get the central line from Liverpool Street to St Paul's.

3) COVENT GARDEN/ LEICESTER SQUARE
We will get the Central Line from St Paul's to Holborn then change and get the Piccadilly Line to Covent Garden and when we're done filming there walk to Leicester Square. Both these places are tourist destinations when visiting london and so are well known throughout the world.

4) PICCADILLY CIRCUS
Piccadilly Circus is juist a short walk from Leicester Square and is for London what Times Square is for new york. The lights from the neon signs would look really effective in our music video.

5) EMBANKMENT
From Piccadilly Circus we will get the Bakerloo line to Embankment Station. Embankment is obviously next to the river thames and the water will add something else to our video which other people don't have making it more interesting and enjoyable to watch.
6) SOUTH KENSINGTON
From Embankment we will get the District or Circle Line to South Kensington. Kensington is a fashionable, rich area of london and has many large old fashioned terraced houses. This location would contrast well with the more urban settings we are using in the rest of the video.

7) HYDE PARK CORNER
From South Kensington we will get the Piccadilly Line to Hyde Park Corner. Hyde park is one of the largest parks in Central London and will provide a different location to the built-up areas we are using in the rest of the video.

Diary of a Day's Shooting

Texual Analysis

Beyonce - Countdown

The video starts with a close up of Beyonce. This establishes the artist and her beauty which is the USP of Beyonce's songs. It then cuts to a long shot of Beyonce dancing. All of the shots of Beyonce dancing are long shots. This allows the audience to see every aspect of the dance.

The video also uses a lot of split screens. This effect attracts the audience as it is different and unexpected from the predictable close up previously. There are also other split screens used that show all the different sides to Beyonce. For example, fun and sexy.
The different colours used in the video in one shot is very effective as it portrays a sense of fun and is very attractive. Also, the fact that they have put Beyonce is one shot doing the same shoulder movement is very attractive and in time with the beat of the song. Also, the fact that it shows her whole body in a long shot conveys the 'sex appeal'.
The quick change in location is very key in a music video. In a music video generally the location changed every third of the song. All the outfits have changed and the location is completely different. This makes the video more exiting and not boring. Also, the abnormal image of people dancing in front of Beyonce attracts the audience as it is out of the ordinary. This is defiantly something we could take into consideration for our music video.

This bit that goes back to the colourful split screens is effective because again, the audience do not get bored. Also, the mixture of extreme close ups, mid-shots and long shots gives the video an edge and again, is very attractive.
We really like this shot as is portrays another side to Beyonce and again, is out of the ordinary. It is a very quick shot which conveys the speed of the song and gives a different view on the dancing.

This long shot of a split screen merge is effective because it shows different personalities of Beyonce and is attracts the audience through the abnormal.

This is also shown in this shot where Beyonce is shown doing different movement on a Countdown. This is good because its fits in to the genre of the song and the good effects shown.
The video then establishes a new location of a dance studio. This is the 3rd location. This should mean a new look and different story for Beyonce.

This mid shot shows the new look for Beyonce and creates a different atmosphere. The whole theme of dancing all the way through expresses the emotions Beyonce expresses through her music. The shot being through a window is really effective as it is different and unusual.

This next split scene also shows a different personality from Beyonce. It shows the side to her that loves the 60's. This may come from her part she played in her film 'Dream Girls' filmed in the 60's. This is a loveable side to Beyonce that attracts all different audiences.

Settings and Location

London

We have chosen to locate our music video in the city of London. The reasons behind choosing this setting is as follows.

1. It is a well known destination that can be established from any one of its many main attractions i.e the London Eye.

2. As well as looking good in day light it looks amazing at night as it is lit up really well. This suits our music video really well as we want to portray a sense of time throughout the day.

3. There are many different places we can use in London. There is Embankment (London Eye & Big Ben), Time Square, Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square, Buckingham Palace etc.

4. London is also a very busy environment. This means that we have other people in the shots which is what we want.

5. London is very accessible to us. It is one train into London and from there we can get any underground. We can also get a travel card which saves us money when we want to change location.

6. This suits our target audience because the younger generation always goes up London to shop or to see the sites or to enjoy the night life. Younger people will be able to relate to the chosen location and will already be familiar with the settings.

Equipment

Camera

The camera we are using to film our music video is a Panasonic HDC-SD80. The SD80 is an extremely compact camera (you could fit it in your pocket), a trait which will be extremely useful for when we film in London as lugging a lot of heavy equipment on the Underground wouldn't be practical. The camera has 1920x1080 recording capabilities and a 46x zoom along with optical image stabilizer (OIS). On most cameras using the zoom feature results in shaky footage, but OIS means any blurry footage is stabilised.
We decided to use this camera because it is more efficent and also has the latest techonology that will help us produce quality filming. This camera belongs to a member of this team, we didn't use the school camera because other groups may need them whilst we do and also if we brake them, we will have to pay for them. Using a team members camera is more efficent and also the camera is better quality than the one that we have avaliable at school.
